The Road to Ferrara
Sunday, September 14 | St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church | 3pm
Join DC Singer Collective for our first chamber choral project: The Road to Ferrara.
Featuring works by Palestrina, Gesualdo, Lasso, and de Wert, this concert explores sacred and secular choral music from the height of the Italian Renaissance, from breathtaking choral polyphony to fascinating, virtuosic madrigals. Take a journey with us to the famed Renaissance court of the Dukes of Ferrara, which attracted composers from all over Europe to create some of the most inventive music of the age. Fourteen of the Washington area’s finest professional choral singers converge for this special presentation that you won’t want to miss.

Coventry Carols for Advent

Join members of the DC Singer Collective as they present a concert dedicated to exploring the music that keeps us company and walks us through the ambiguity of the holiday season and our annual transition to winter. Tracing links to the origins of what is known as Advent in the Christian calendar, this intimate concert of unaccompanied vocal music will bring together works from a variety of traditions and viewpoints composed in different times and spaces in order to meditate on the connection between hope, ambiguity, and rest.

Plague of Love
Sunday, February 2 | St. John’s Episcopal Church – Georgetown Concert Series | 5pm
Described by the Washington Post as “a cautionary pre-Valentine’s day” program, “The Plague of Love” features madrigals by Barbara Strozzi and Claudio Monteverdi. In a time and region where devastating plagues could be common and life was short, Monteverdi and Strozzi and the poets whose texts they set focused much of their artistic energy on love, depicting it alternately as torture, war, distraction, delight.

Join sopranos Margot Rood and Genevieve McGahey for a co-programmed extravaganza featuring music of the English Baroque by Henry Purcell side-by-side with music by French composers Elizabeth Jacquet de la Guerre and Jean-Philippe Rameau.
Featuring instrumentalists Freya Creech, violin, Wade Davis, cello, and Patrick Merrill, harpsichord performing on period instruments, this is an evening you won’t want to miss!

The Luminous Chants of Hildegard

A collaboration with Chamber Music for Hearts and Minds and soprano Rosa Lamoreaux
Welcome the spring with the glorious chants of Hildegard von Bingen. Featuring Rosa Lamoreaux, soprano, Amy Domingues, vielle, Olivia Castor, harp and DCSC founder Genevieve McGahey, vocals.

The profits of the concert will go to the Family Homelessness Initiative of St. Columba Episcopal Church.

Join Rosa Lamoreaux and DCSC members Genevieve McGahey, Julie Bosworth and Janna Critz for a workshop exploring the connection between breath, sound and movement, as well as what makes Hildegard’s music so meditative and ecstatic.
Wear comfortable clothes as we will be led in some light physical movement by Janna, who is also a certified yoga instructor!
